Premiere of Elmore Concerto for Organ and Orchestra Announced

Over the years NCCC was blessed by the friendship and support of noted Philadelphia organist and composer Dr. Robert Elmore and his sister Rachel. Upon the death of Rachel Elmore, NCCC was bequeathed all of Dr. Elmore’s memorabilia, including his music library, manuscripts, and personal records. These are catalogued and housed at the University of Pennsylvania Archives for scholarly research. http://www.archives.upenn.edu/faids/upt/upt50/elmorerh.html

Several friends and former Elmore students are working to honor the 100th anniversary of his birth (1913). They have established a website http://www.robertelmore.org/ on which information about Dr. Elmore and the anniversary projects will be posted.

They are currently working with publishers to get his organ music back in print. A major project will be what we believe is the world premiere of Elmore’s Concerto for Organ and Orchestra, composed in 1938. Performance is scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2011 by Robert Plimpton, organ, and the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra, Randall Tweed, conductor, at the First United Methodist Church of San Diego. Plans are already underway for major Elmore performances in the Philadelphia area during the anniversary year, workshops on his organ music at leading music schools, articles in organ journals.

Dr. Elmore’s musical contribution – both as a concert artist and as a devout Christian – will be preserved for future generations. NCCC is honored to be the custodian of this great heritage.
